What the installer does, and how to undo it

Download agf

On macOS and Linux, agf is a single program: no Node, npm or Docker needed. On Windows it runs on Node (version 22 or 24), because companies often block unsigned .exe programs.

macOS: the program isn't signed, and the installer unblocks the file itself. If you download it by hand, check the .sha256 file.

After downloading

1. Allow the file to run

macOSchmod +x agf-darwin-arm64

WindowsNeeds Node 22 or 24. The installer also removes old versions (agf.exe).

2. Check the file is intactshasum -a 256 agf-darwin-arm64The result must match the .sha256 file.

3. Try the program./agf --versionShows the installed version.

4. Use it in your projectInside your project, run agf init. It sets up the project and the instructions for your agent.agf init

Downloads the right program for your system, checks the file is intact, installs it in your user folder (no admin password) and doesn't touch your terminal settings.

No npm needed: agf is a single program. On Windows it runs on Node (version 22 or 24), because companies often block unsigned .exe programs.

`agf upgrade` downloads the new version and checks the file the same way.

`agf doctor --providers` shows which AI services it found on your computer. None is required: without them, agf prepares the instructions and your own agent does the work.

Everything lives in a single file inside your project. Nothing is written outside it.

Troubleshooting

The system blocked the installer

Normal for an unsigned program. On macOS the installer unblocks the file itself; on Windows it installs through Node.

`agf` not found after installing

agf's folder isn't in the terminal path yet. The installer prints the line to add; then open a new terminal.

The command answers `mode: delegated`

No AI service is connected to agf. That's normal: hand the instructions to your agent, or set up an AI service.

`agf gaps --kind phantom_done` flags a task

The task is marked done, but the code or the test don't match. Fix them until they match again.

I want to uninstall everything

Delete the program in ~/.local/bin and the project's task file. Nothing else was changed.
